Here is a photo taken the other day when I was sitting beside my pretty little pond. Isn’t it cute? So tranquil….so peaceful. If I close my eyes I can almost hear the water gurgling and the birds chirping away:
If you look closely you can see a few of my little red comet fish. You can also see a couple of the new pond plants I picked up last week. In the upper left hand corner you can see a crop of pretty yellow creeping jenny creeping away nicely. In the foreground you can see my beautiful while lilies gaining steam and growing like mad. So pretty.
And do you also see what I see?
Take a closer look:
CRAP!!! My garden has been infested with the stupid Scarlet Lily Beetle. I hate these little bastards. They are the most destructive, disgusting, vile little bug you have ever seen.
And they love to eat my favourite flower in the garden. Voraciously. It literally shears off the plant, leaving a little stub of nothing:
I would love to have my garden filled with beautiful lilies but I’ve been struggling with the damn Lily Beetle for two years. There’s really no way to get rid of them except to inspect your lilies every day and pick those horrible things off by hand and squish them to death. Every single day. Sometimes twice a day. It used to make me sick to my stomach to touch them and kill them. After seeing them destroy every single one of my lilies last year, I now enjoy it.
I’m afraid if the beetle eats this year’s flowers I’m going to have to pull them all out. It breaks my lily-loving heart. Does anyone out there know a better way to get rid of them? (That actually works?) I’d love to hear about it.
See you next time around.
